The perfect 5 step skincare routine

Whether you have a three or nine-step routine, there’s one thing that anyone can do to improve their skincare, which is to apply products in the right order. It doesn’t depend on what your skin concern is, you’ll still be starting with a clean, toned base, and then apply concentrated active ingredients and finish by sealing in moisture and obviously SPF in daytime.

Following is the step-by-step guide of a skincare routine:

1. Wash/cleanse your face

Both morning and night, make sure to use a gentle cleanser on your face according to your skin type. Apply face wash all over your face using gentle pressure. Gently pat your face dry with a soft towel. However, if you wear makeup, you may need to cleanse better at night to get rid of the makeup. It will get clear away of all the impurities and gunk accumulated and will make your face clean.

2. Don’t skip on toner

A toner is helpful in order to maintain the pH balance of your skin. Apply toner after cleansing your face and before any other skincare product. Pour a few drops of toner into your palms or a cotton pad and gently swipe onto your face. However, if your toner is exfoliating, meaning that it removes dead skin cells with ingredients like glycolic acid, make sure to use it only at night. Hydrating toners can be used twice a day. Make sure to not use exfoliating toners and retinoids or other exfoliators at the same time.

3. Apply serum

Morning is a great time to use a serum with antioxidants, such as brightening vitamin C serum because they protect your skin from free radicals that you encounter throughout the day. At night, make sure to use a moisturizing serum with hyaluronic acid, which keeps your skin from drying out at night, especially if you’re using anti-aging or acne treatments that can irritate and dry out the skin. Whatever you are using, just remember Water-based serums should go underneath moisturizer; oil-based serums should be applied after moisturizer.

4. Moisturizing is the key

Moisturizer both hydrates skin and locks in all the other layers of product you’ve applied. In the evening you can get a thicker night cream to tackle the extra dryness on your face. Make sure to take the moisturiser on your pam and rub it to warm the product beforehand for better results.

5. Spot-Treatment

Retinoids can reduce dark spots, breakouts, and fine lines by increasing skin-cell turnover. However, they also make your skin sensitive to the sun. Thus, it is important to apply a good sunscreen with SPF 50 after the Retinoids to keep the skin protected from the harmful UV rays of the sun.

The Takeaway

Having a good skincare routine is extremely important if you want to maintain healthy looking skin. From serum and sunscreen to makeup and moisturizer, finding the perfect product combo for your skin type can definitely lead to better quality of the skin. However, while the quality of the products you’re using is important, so is the order in which they are applied. Make sure to follow the above mentioned steps in the same order to get the best results.
